Music can be a way to being a window into your soul. Songs can trigger sad and sometimes happy emotions. What speaks to you? Since it can bring up raw emotions that can be too difficult to handle when we are in an emotional state, we need to be careful what we listen to at those times. It allows us to express ourselves though thoughts, feelings and our surroundings. If you play instruments, you practice over and over. Sometimes stepping out of your comfort zone. We often see ourselves doing this as we work on our mental health growth. Use music to find your voice. Ask your therapist what good music therapy would help you. Professional advice is always a rule to follow when needing help with mental health. Following are some examples of songs and the emotions I see in myself:
Elton John’s “Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest word,” was about broken relationships. That definitely didn’t help listening to it if my state of mind wasn’t positively focused. Bernie Taupin and Elton John’s wrote “Don’t let the sun go down on me.” I loved that song. However, that would be one that that would not lift me out of feeling isolated or heal the emotional wounds I would feel when my thoughts and emotions were controlling my mind. Depending on your age some of your favorites might be Frank Sinatra, Chuck Berry, Little Richy, Taylor Swift, Doja Cat, Pearl Cat and they all have songs that can stir up lots of emotions.
With music therapy it can lower heart rate and blood pressure. It can be therapeutic, uplift your mood, reduce anxiety and depression. Listening to mindful meditation when listening when in a good state of mind continually has helped me the most when having trouble emotionally. This music falls under what is often called evidence-based methods. According to research it may boost your memory and cognitive abilities. It helps to relieve the issues troubling us. There are music therapist. They have to become board certified. They end up having what is called an MT-BC (Music Therapist-Board Certified).
