Books relating to suicide by the person experiencing mental health issues or a loved one of someone who committed suicide.
1. Reasons to Stay Alive by Matt Haig
Matt shares several conversations with himself as a youth. Talks of his mental health problems and how he discovered hope. How he learned to reach beyond depression and had a new outlook on life.
2. The Recovery Letters: Addressed to people Experiencing Depression, by Olivia Sagan and James Withey
. They share letters by people living with depression. As they describe the book “you’ll find heartfelt and comforting letters.” They also shared something I feel strongly about, “you are not alone.”
3. The Noonday Demon: An Atlas of Depression, by Andrew Soloman.It is filled with detailed research that covers treatment for depression, suicide and much more. It touchs on things from personal, cultural and though as the book describes, “through a scientific lens.” He talks of the many complexities, both moral and ethical and why you can feel a sense of hope.
