Mental Health Issues and Cognitive Distortions

Mental Health and Cognitive Distortions

Generally, when you feel there are no solutions, you can sometimes suppress your thoughts and emotions. In addition, your life feels negatively impacted with no way to see a positive outcome. Issues can come about without the other person knowing they said or did something. Remember, when you seek help don’t put yourself down. Equally important, don’t see yourself as a failure.

Furthermore, when you have issues that control you mind and life remember, these issues can manipulate and distort what you think and feel. All things considered, you can also affect your health by e.g., your sleep and eating habits, among other issues. For instance, things like depression, anxiety can basically come and go, be recurring and above all even long term.

Basically, there are strong ties between how we feel and think. In a word, the way you mentally filter relates to how you focus. At the same time, you may find yourself dismissing positive experiences. Furthermore, you can have what’s called an “all or nothing thinking.” For example, I failed to focus on how to apply mindfulness. At this point, it is clear that I’ll never learn.

In addition, keep in mind it doesn’t mean there isn’t any truth to your thoughts, feelings and how you think. However, from my experience of 38 years of heaving issues I didn’t have before going into the Army, I found many changes within myself. To be consumed by my thoughts and emotions. They controlled my mind and it is an ongoing effort to not let these things absorb your life.

People can also find themselves “fortune telling,” with their thoughts. What do I mean by that? In other words, your thoughts and emotions can make you in a state of being all consuming. I found myself thinking someone didn’t like me. Guess you could say it was “fortune telling.”

Despite the fact, the person may not have said or did anything that made me feel that way. Equally compelling, they might have said something and with my thoughts and emotions controlling me, I saw the negative without talking to the person.

In conclusion, when you’re in that frame of mind, things can seem more personal. You may find yourself questioning things you say and do. Such as: “I should have… and I must have….”
