Technology has advanced our journey in mental health. Look at it as a tool. A mechanic uses wrenches. Chefs use knives. Mental health now has apps to provide help with such things as cognitive behavior therapy; mood tracking and Artificial Intelligence have entered as a resource for mental health. It’s like giving birth by combining different technologies and methods together to get improvements in things like smart phones. Virtual reality has opened doors to allow people with fears to apply therapy that will help while in a comfortable space. Technology comes in the form of smartwatches. In addition, there is wearable technology. Helps with heart rate, sleep patterns, keeping track of steps walked and much more.
Video calls and secure messaging is widely used. The VA uses this to help with patients. Things I have participated in are the move program which helps focus on foods to eat, portions and much more. Cognitive Behavior Therapy, the Gerofit program, mindfulness classes and secure messaging.
Gaming has made an entrance into mental health by providing interactive experiences. Chatbots and virtual therapy. Machines learning brings personalized treatment. Suited to the individual like a tailor-made suit. Digital art like all art allows you to express your feelings and emotions without words. I don’t think we are done as a society looking for improved avenues to learn from.
